Maintenance to Coating Plant

We recently carried out some planned maintenance work to the Coating Plant at Craigall Quarry. The work was carried out during a shutdown period and involved removing the mixing drum with the use of a 150 tonne crane, lowering it to the ground and carrying out the required repairs. These repairs included the replacement of the 2 drive rings on the drum, upgrading of the drum insulation and replacement of some of the material lifters inside the drum. In addition to this, some modifications were made to improve the efficiency of the wet scrubber system on the plant. When the repair work was completed on the drum it was placed back into position using the crane and all ancillary components re-assembled.

Due to the awkward nature of this work a lot of pre-planning was carried out in relation to the overall safety of the task and also the practicalities of the work. This planning was rewarded with the snag-free completion of the work ahead of the scheduled completion time. Credit goes to our Quarry Foreman, Craig Matthew and we also thank Farlow Engineering and Quigley Crane Hire for their assistance in helping everything run so smoothly.
